One thing I have trouble with is the part where you do sketch-to-lineart in "the bast way" topic. Y'see, I have Elements 8 and there isn't any Channels tab. So do you know a way I could do it and junk?

look on the PS windows menu, it should have a channels option. If don't, update your PS, because you do need this tab to do that c:

What if your pic is too light not dark? :)

you can use ctrl+M to make it darker, or duplicate the img, use multiply and merge the 2 layers.

just drag the line around
Make it a curve like an S
go changing it slowly and you'll find out

If control m does that, is there a longer way to it? I don't have all keys memorized. :)

Doesn't seem to work. Do I have to duplicate the background then delete the RGB?
Reply
Meedup Featured By Owner Jan 15, 2011  Professional General Artist
nope. You just have to be sure that the layer is not locked, and you don't delete the rgb channel, you use it to select, and then go back to layers and press delete

Before you go to RGB, are you re-tracing the outline of your drawing in PS?

Hmm... well, for some reason when I click to highlight the "white" in rgb mode, the entire piece is highlighting. Am I doing something wrong? Maybe is the contrast supposed to be higher, or... ?

yees i gess the contrast should be higher. In images>adjustment>curves (ctrl M) you can make it darker.

Thanks so much.
As someone who is new to digital work (I use Gimp to retouch my traditional cuz it's free) I was wondering if you can begin with a digital photo of the sketch rather than a scanned image?
Thanks again for the help.

yes, but you'll need to work a lot with levels, and it usually gets too noisy, then you'll take a loong time to clean everything. So it's better to scan, then most part of the white will be pure, #FFFFFF, making it easy to select and delete.

Also, normal cameras usually don't have a good resoltion

But if you have a really good camera (pro or semi pro) and somewhere with a nice white light, it may work..

Looks like I need to find a scanner, or run my sketches up to Kinkos...
Thanks again

In Gimp (because pse doesn't have channels .-.) I went to channels and RGB didn't come up. Is there something I can do for this?

Sorry I don't use gimp
:/
maybe check if you are working in rgb, or if it's there only separated chanels (one r, one g and one b) try to select all of them, that will work as selecting the rbg (maybe)
